Synopsis

Connecting Your NetScreen, SSG, or ISG Firewall to a Network or Workstation

Problem

Solution

Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0 and higher.

To connect your NetScreen, SSG, or ISG Firewall to a network or workstation, perform the following steps:

Step one: If the device is equipped with an AC Power Adapter, connect the DC connector end of the power cable into the DC power receptacle on the back of the system.  Otherwise, skip to the next step.

Step two: Connect the AC adapter end of the power cable into an AC power source.

Warning:  Juniper recommends using a surge protector.

Note: You can connect your Firewall device to a LAN via an internal switch or hub (see Step 3) or directly to your workstation (see Step 4).

Step three: Connect a straight-through cable from the Trusted interface on your NetScreen, SSG, or ISG Firewall to the internal switch or hub.

Step four: Connect a straight-through cable from the Trusted interface on your NetScreen, SSG, or ISG Firewall directly to the Ethernet port on the workstation.

Note: The NetScreen, SSG, or ISG Firewall ports are auto-sensing and auto-correcting. You can use a straight-through or a cross-over cable, and the port will still recognize the link.
