Connecting Your NetScreen-204/208 as a Single Security Gateway

Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0 and higher.

To connect your NetScreen-204/208 as a single security gateway, perform the following:

Note: You may want to install your NetScreen-204/208 into an equipment rack before connecting it to a network. For more information about rack-mounting your NetScreen-204/208, go to Rack Mounting Your NetScreen-204/208.

Step one: From the back panel, verify that the power switch is in the Off position.

Step two: Connect the power cable included from the power outlet to a power source in the room.

Warning: To prevent personal injury from exposure to DC voltage, always replace the insulating cap after installing power cables.

Step three: From the front panel, connect an RJ-45 cable from the Trust zone interface to an internal switch, router, or hub.

Note: In this example, we are using Ethernet1 as the Trust zone interface.

Step four: Connect an RJ-45 cable from the Untrust zone interface to an external router. If you are not implementing a DMZ network segment, go to Step 6.

Note: In this example, we are using Ethernet3 as the Untrust zone interface.

Step five: Connect an RJ-45 cable from the DMZ zone interface to a DMZ switch, router, or hub.

Note: In this example, we are using Ethernet2 as the DMZ zone interface.

Step six: From the back panel, flip the power switch to the On position.
