This article applies to NetScreen-Remote VPN Client 8.0 and above.
NetScreen-Remote is a virtual private network (VPN) client that you can use to send and receive secure communications over the Internet. NetScreen-Remote is certified by the International Computer Security Association (ICSA) as an IPSec-compliant VPN solution.
When NetScreen-Remote operates on an unprotected public network, such as the Internet, it can create a VPN tunnel between an end user and a NetScreen security appliance. NetScreen-Remote software is a full-featured product ready for advanced IPSec communications that secures traffic sent from a desktop or laptop computer across a public or private TCP/IP network. NetScreen-Remote allows users to specify an internal network IP address to be sent for client-to-gateway communications.
Each time the computer starts, NetScreen-Remote starts automatically and runs transparently behind other software applications.
The NetScreen-Remote provides the following features:
| Feature | Description |
| Multi-platform security client | Enables client-initiated VPNs from Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP. |
| Broad security support | Implements IPSec and L2TP security protocols, with optional certificates and/or smart cards. |
| NAT traversal support | Allows for VPN tunnel termination in environments where Network Address Translation (NAT) is used. |
| Centralized VPN policy management | VPN policies are assigned to users, rather than machines, and retrieved automatically only when used with Global Pro and Global Pro Express. |
| Integrated personal firewall | Personal firewall software included with security client provides additional security to mobile users. |
| Optional posture assessment | Prevents VPN from being established if personal firewall software has been disabled, compromised or is not installed on users machine. |
