Problem

Solution

Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0 and higher.

To connect your NetScreen-5XP/5XT/5GT to a network or workstation, perform the following steps:

Connect the DC connector end of the power cable into the DC power receptacle on the back of the system.

Connect the AC adapter end of the power cable into an AC power source.

NetScreen recommends using a surge protector.

You can connect your NetScreen-5XP/5XT/5GT to a LAN via an internal switch or hub (see Step 3) or directly to your workstation (see Step 4).

Connect a straight-through cable from the Trusted interface on your NetScreen-5XP/5XT/5GT to the internal switch or hub.

Connect a straight-through cable from the Trusted interface on your NetScreen-5XP/5XT/5GT directly to the Ethernet port on the workstation.

The NetScreen-5XT/5GT ports are auto-sensing and auto-correcting. You can use a straight-through or a cross-over cable, and the port will still recognize the link.
