How Do I Ping a Public IP Address?
Problem:
If you know an active public IP address, you can try to ping it. If you do not know a public IP address, you can ping a domain name (e.g. www.juniper.net).
To ping a public IP address, perform the following steps:
From behind the local firewall, open the Command Prompt.
Enter ping [the website public IP address or URL] ; press ENTER.
In this example, we sent a ping to the domain name of www.juniper.net and there was a reply from 207.17.137.68.

This ping is successful because 207.17.137.68 replies. An unsuccessful ping displays: Request timed out . Troubleshooting
