"Request system snapshot" fails on a J-series router with error: cannot use compact-flash media, may need to partition.

While performing a system snapshot a message similar to the following one may be displayed :

root@ router> request system snapshot
error: cannot use compact-flash media, may need to partition

This message means that you will need to partition the USB memory stick or compact flash that you are attempting to snapshot to.

The following command will create a snapshot image to the USB and partition the USB in the process:

root@router> request system snapshot media usb partition as-primary

The process may take up to 2 minutes. When it is complete you should now have a bootable image on your external drive.
