How to display and clear ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) entries on EX Switches

Summary:

This article describes a CLI command that allows the user to view and clear all ARP entries,  This includes specific entries learned under the master routing instance, or on a different routing instance, on EX switches.

 

Solution:

To display the all ARP entries that are learned on the EX Switch.

 

root@EX4200> show arp no-resolve   

MAC Address       Address         Interface     Flags

00:a0:68:38:92:d5 10.1.1.11       vlan.0         none

00:19:e2:57:92:c0 10.1.1.12       vlan.0         none

00:a0:68:18:42:a5 10.1.1.14       vlan.10        none

00:a0:68:68:72:d5 10.1.1.15       vlan.10        none

Total entries: 4

 

-- IP Address 10.1.1.11 and 10.1.1.12 are learned on master routing table and IP address 10.1.1.14 and 10.1.1.15 are part of "Servers" routing instance.

 

To clear a specific arp entry learned under master routing table.

root@EX-4200> clear arp hostname 10.1.1.11

10.1.1.11        deleted

 

To clear all the arp entries learned under master routing table.  

root@EX-4200> clear arp     

10.1.1.12        deleted

 

 To clear all arp entries learnt under specific routing instance.

root@EX-4200> clear arp vpn  <name of the routing instance table>   

 

root@EX4200> show arp no-resolve   

MAC Address       Address         Interface     Flags

00:a0:68:18:42:a5 10.1.1.14       vlan.10        none

00:a0:68:68:72:d5 10.1.1.15       vlan.10        none

 

root@EX-4200> clear arp vpn Servers

10.1.1.14        deleted

10.1.1.15        deleted
