Synopsis

Cannot use hostnames for communication with hosts on the remote network, when using NetScreen-Remote 9.0r1 on Vista clients.
Can connect using NetScreen-Remote 9.0r1 on a Vista OS, but cannot pass any traffic.
Upgrade to NS-Remote version 9.0r2 to get the Virtual Adapter support.

Problem

NetScreen-Remote (NSR) 9.0 version offers support on Vista clients.  The following problems may be experienced with NetScreen-Remote 9.0r1:

Problem Scenario 1:
When using NSR 9.0r1 on Vista clients to connect to a remote network, with XAUTH disabled on the NetScreen-Remote Security Policy, the VPN connection establishes fine but is unable to communicate using hostnames. When IP addresses are used, hosts can be pinged successfully. The following messages are also logged in the Log viewer file when first trying to connect:
11-04: 09:49:37.146 My Connections\TestVPN - the Virtual Adapter interface is not currently supported on this platform.
11-04: 09:49:37.146 My Connections\TestVPN - Virtual Adapter selection disregarded.

Problem Scenario 2:
With XAUTH (Extended Authentication) enabled in the NetScreen-Remote Security Policy, the connection to the VPN Gateway establishes fine, but traffic is not able to pass.  Messages, such as "Inbound packet failed validation", may be reported in the NetScreen-Remote Log Viewer.

Solution

Upgrade the NetScreen-Remote client to version 9.0r2 in order to correct the above scenarios, related to the SafeNet Virtual Adapter.
9.0r2 has the added support for the SafeNet Virtual Adapter (VA) on Microsoft Vista.  This is the only change from the previous version.
