How Do I Ping a Public IP Address?

Solution:
Note: If you know an active public IP address, you can try to ping it. If you do not know a public IP address, you can ping a domain name (e.g. www.juniper.net).

To ping a public IP address, perform the following steps:

Step one From behind the local firewall, open the Command Prompt.

Step two Enter ping [the website public IP address or URL] ; press ENTER.

Note: In this example, we sent a ping to the domain name of www.juniper.net and there was a reply from 207.17.137.68.

Note: This ping is successful because 207.17.137.68 replies.  An unsuccessful ping displays:  Request timed out .
