Note: This article applies to ScreenOS 4.0.

To setup SNMP management, perform the following steps:

Note: The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agent for your NetScreen provides network administrators with a way to view statistical data about the network and the devices on it. It also provides notification of system events of interest.

Step one: Open the WebUI. For more information on accessing the WebUI, go to Accessing Your NetScreen Using the WebUI.

Step two: From the NetScreen options menu, click Configuration, select Report Settings, and then click SNMP.

Step eight: From the Permissions list, click to choose the community permissions.

Note: The Write permission allows this community to have read-write access to the Management Information Base II data. The Trap permission allows this community to receive SNMP traps. Including Traffic Alarms allows the community to receive SNMP traps generated when traffic exceeds the alarm thresholds set in policies.

Note: For this example, we chose Write, Trap, and Including Traffic Alarms.

Step nine: In the Hosts IP Address/Netmask text boxes, enter the IP Address and Netmask of your SNMP host(s).

Note: You can enter up to eight SNMP hosts per community.

Note: For this example, we entered two hosts, 192.168.1.20/24 and 192.168.1.30/24.
