Setting up a Dial-up VPN using certificates requires certificates to be installed on the NetScreen device and on the NetScreen-Remote Client. This article will step through the certificate request and installation process. It will also highlight the various VPN changes that need to be made to an existing pre-shared key VPN configuration.

Note: This article does not cover the certificate request submission/retrieval process or the generation of digital certificates through a Certificate Server. Please contact your Certificate Authority or Certificate Server vendor for assistance in these areas. The Certificate Authority may require specific certificate request parameters, please contact your Certificate Authority to identify which fields are required.

To configure a Dial-up VPN using certificates, perform the following steps:

Step one: Generate a certificate on the NetScreen device. For more information, go to Generating a Certificate on a NetScreen Device.

Step two: Install the certificate on the NetScreen device. For more information, go to Installing a Certificate on a NetScreen Device.

Step three: Generate a certificate on the NetScreen-Remote Client. For more information, go to Generating a Certificate on a NetScreen-Remote Client.

Step four: Import the certificate into the NetScreen-Remote Client. For more information, go to Importing Certificates into the NetScreen-Remote Client.

Step five: Configure VPN modifications for the NetScreen device. For more information, go to Configuring VPN Modifications for the NetScreen Device.

Step six: Configure VPN modifications for the NetScreen-Remote Client. For more information, go to Configuring VPN Modifications for the NetScreen-Remote Client.
