Synopsis
The corporate office is running a Juniper Firewall that can support VPN connections. What VPN client options are available? This article provides guidance on connecting NetScreen-Remote or other non-Juniper clients (see list below) to the Firewall device.
There are many VPN client solutions. Below are just a few:
- SSL VPN
- IPSec over L2TP
- PPTP
- VPN clients from 3rd party vendors such as:
- Macintosh
- Freeswan
- Cisco
- Checkpoint

Will you be using the NetScreen-Remote Client? For NetScreen-Remote product information, consult: Juniper Networks NetScreen-Remote or Deploying NetScreen Remote Access Solutions
- Yes - Continue with Step 2
- No - Consult the following link regarding non-Juniper VPN Clients: KB9529 - How to Connect to Corporate Network without Using NetScreen-Remote
Are you using the latest version of NetScreen-Remote? For assistance, consult: KB6161 - Determining the Current Version of NetScreen-Remote
- Yes - Continue with Step 3
- No - in most cases, it is recommended to run the latest version of NetScreen-Remote Client. Please consult the Release Notes for the latest version to determine if an upgrade is possible. For information on how to upgrade, consult the VPN Client Installation Guide
Does the OS support the version of NetScreen-Remote?
- Yes - Continue with Step 4
- No / Not Sure - KB8343 - Which version of Windows will support the NetScreen Remote client?
Is this an Initial configuration?
- Yes - Continue with Step 5

Will you be using certificate authentication?
- Yes - Go to KB4775 - Dial Up VPN using Certificates
- No - Continue with Step 6
Will you be running Windows applications through the VPN?
Applications such as Microsoft Outlook and/or Windows File Sharing / Mapped drives will require authentication
