Synopsis:
Which products use a "base" license?

Problem:
Some Juniper devices ship with a base-level license, while others ship with a trial key that will expire and need to be replaced by at least a base level key.

Solution:
Below is a list of devices with "base" licenses, and a description of how they function.

WX Series:
The WX series devices ship with a full-feature, full speed license key installed on the device. This license will run for 30 days. This key needs to be replaced by either a base license, or an upgrade license. To generate your base license, please visit theLicense Management System and select WAN Acceleration Products from the drop menu. Enter your serial number, and leave the authorization code field blank. Your base license will be generated and can be e-mailed to you.

DX Series:
The DX series devices do not ship with an installed license key. Upgrade keys can be purchased, or a base license can be created. To generate your base license, please visit the License Management System and select WAN Acceleration Products from the drop menu. Enter your serial number, and leave the authorization code field blank. Your base license will be generated and can be e-mailed to you.

Network & Security Manager:
The NSM software and appliance ships with a base license of 25 devices bundled into the software. To manage up to 25 devices, no additional license is required. License upgrades can be purchased and generated using the Authorization Code in the License Management System.

NetScreen and SSG Devices:
The NetScreen and SSG firewalls also include a base license for BGP peers. The 5XT has a base license of 4 BGP peers, the SSG-5 and SSG-20 each have 10 BGP peers as part of their base license. This license is installed on the unit when it ships, so no action is required to generate the licenses.
