2012-06 Security Bulletin: MediaFlow Controller (MFC): SSL server allows connections without encryption

Article ID: JSA10514 SECURITY_ADVISORIES Last Updated: 05 Mar 2017Version: 3.0
Legacy Advisory Id:
Product Affected:
This issue affects any MediaFlow Controller device running an earlier software release than the fixed software releases stated above.
In normal operations, the Juniper Networks MediaFlow Controller (MFC) establishes encrypted SSL connections with client systems. However, if a client requests an unencrypted SSL connection, the MFC will comply with the client's request and respond by establishing an unencrypted SSL session. This will result in a loss of confidentiality for the information transmitted in the unencrypted SSL connection, exposing the contents of the session along the complete network path between the client and the MFC.

Juniper SIRT is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability.

No other Juniper Networks products or platforms are affected by this issue.

The issue is fixed in MFC software releases 11.A.1, 11.B.3, and all subsequent releases.

This issue is being tracked as PR 688716 and is visible on the Customer Support website.

KB16765 - "In which releases are vulnerabilities fixed?" describes which release vulnerabilities are fixed as per our End of Engineering and End of Life support policies.

The issue can be worked around by preventing clients from requesting ciphers which support unencrypted connections.
