This issue affects all NSM products regardless of platform.

Multiple OpenSSH vulnerabilities have been identified in Juniper Networks NSM products (NSMXpress, NSMXpress II, NSM3000, and NSMserver). The five (5) individual vulnerabilities are listed below by CVE label, along with corresponding CVSS Base score and score vector:

CVE-2005-2798 5.0 (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:N/A:N)

CVE-2006-5051 9.3 (AV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C)

CVE-2006-0225 4.6 (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P)

CVE-2004-0230 5.0 (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P)

CVE-2006-4924 7.8 (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C)

(Note: CVE-2006-5051 has the highest score and thus is used as the score for this entire bulletin. However, that specific issue is only applicable if GSSAPI is in use on the affected system.)

These issues were discovered in a variety of ways, and all are assumed to be known publicly.

The Juniper SIRT is not aware of any specific malicious exploitation of these vulnerabilities against Juniper Networks NSM products.

No other Juniper Networks products or platforms are affected by the issues in this bulletin.

All of the issues in this bulletin were resolved by specific fixes to the NSM products.

NSM version 2012.1 (released July 03, 2012) and all subsequent releases contain the fixes for these issues.

KB16765 - "In which releases are vulnerabilities fixed?" describes which releases are fixed for vulnerabilities per Juniper Networks' "End of Engineering" and "End of Life" support policies.


It is always prudent to limit physical and network-based access to the NSM device.

Customers are strongly encouraged to upgrade to a release listed above.

NSM Maintenance Releases are available at from the "Download Software" links. If a Maintenance Release is not adequate and access to NSM patches is needed, open a customer support case. A JTAC engineer will review your request and respond, ensuring that you will be provided with the most appropriate Patch Release for your specific situation.
