2017-10 Security Bulletin: ScreenOS: SSL Death Alert vulnerability impacts ScreenOS (CVE-2016-8610)

This issue affects Juniper Networks ScreenOS 6.3.0 prior to 6.3.0r24.

A denial of service flaw was found in the way the TLS/SSL protocol specifies processing of ALERT packets during a connection handshake. A remote attacker could use this flaw to make the ScreenOS TLS/SSL server consume an excessive amount of CPU time and trigger a denial of service condition for the ScreenOS device.

Affected releases are Juniper Networks ScreenOS 6.3.0 prior to 6.3.0r24.

Juniper SIRT is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability.

This issue has been assigned CVE-2016-8610.


The following software releases have been updated to resolve this specific issue: 6.3.0r24 and all subsequent releases.
