To verifiy which FreeBSD version is used in Junos OS, the administrator can use the following commands:
user&device> start shell
% sysctl kern.osreldate
kern.osreldate: 601000 <-- start with 6, this is FreeBSD6 base (6.1)
user&device> start shell
% sysctl kern.osreldate
kern.osreldate: 1001510 <-- start with 10, FreeBSD10 base.
Please refer to https://kb.juniper.net/KB31678 for an alternative method to check the FreeBSD version.
