[Archive] DB Replication problem in NSM 2007.2 and higher

Article ID: KB10465 KB Last Updated: 04 Jun 2010Version: 8.0
Summary:
DB Replication problem in NSM 2007.2 and higher
Symptoms:
NSM 2007.2 or higher does not replicate the database from Active server to Standby server in HA environment
Solution:

Starting with 2007.2 version NSM uses internal DB replication. This keeps the DB on peer servers in sync all the time.

If you see the database is "dirty"  when issuing the command #/usr/netscreen/HASvr/utils/haStatus  - or - you do not see DB_EVENT_REP_STARTUPDONE message in guiDaemon.0 file on Standby Server, then the database on the servers are not in sync.

To force replication from scratch you can do following on Standby Gui Server:

  1. Login to Standby Server
  2. Delete all the files under /usr/netscreen/GuiSvr/var/xdb/data; except DB_CONFIG file
  3. Delete all files in the /usr/netscreenGuiSvr/var/xdb/init directory
  4. Delete all files in the /usr/netscreen/GuiSvr/var/xdb/log directory
  5. Restart HA Services on Standby Server.

Monitor the file /usr/netscreen/GuiSvr/var/errorLog/guiDaemon.0 and watch for message DB_EVENT_REP_STARTUPDONE. This indicates the DB has been replicated successfully.

You can also verify the folder size of /usr/netscreen/GuiSvr/var/xdb/data on both the servers - they should be approximately same.
