Article ID: KB10760 KB Last Updated: 17 Jun 2010Version: 2.0
Summary:
If the PIM message and Multicast traffic flows in the same zone on the firewall, is a Multicast policy still needed?
Symptoms:
Customer has following set up:

upstream router(PIM enabled)-------e1/1--FW--e1/2-----(PIM enabled)downstream router

Firewall's e1/1 and e1/2 interface are in the same zone, and both have the Multicast PIM protocol enabled.

Is a Multicast policy still needed to make the Multicast traffic to between e1/1 and e1/2?
Solution:
No.

In this case, a Multicast policy is not needed since both interfaces are in the same zone.  However, the command, unset zone <zone> block, is needed to unset intrazone blocking and make the traffic flow between e1/1 and e1/2.
