Summary:
How to configure uPIM module in switching mode?
Solution:
Assuming the uPIM is installed in PIM slot 2 (FPC 2), to configure the uPIM module in switching mode use the command

set chassis fpc 2 pic 0 ethernet pic-mode switching

This will cause the e.g. 8-port uPIM module to operate as an 8-port switch. A uPIM configured to operate as a switch will appear as a single interface (for example, ge-2/0/0); any required layer-3 attributes should be configured on that interface.
