[ScreenOS] How to determine the version of Bootloader on a Juniper firewall

0

0

Article ID: KB10973 KB Last Updated: 21 Dec 2019Version: 5.0
Summary:

This article provides information on how to determine the Boot Loader version on a Juniper firewall.

Symptoms:

Certain platforms require certain versions of Boot Loader to run higher versions of ScreenOS. For example, the ISG-2000 device requires boot loader 1.1.5 to run ScreenOS 5.2.0 or later.

Also, it is strongly recommended to upgrade the boot loader on SSG 500/500M and SSG 300M Series devices, when upgrading to ScreenOS 6.1.0 or later. For more information, refer to the ScreenOS 6.3.0 Upgrade Guide.

Solution:

For a ISG or NS-5000 device, refer to KB9446 - How To Determine Version of Bootloader on ISG and NS-5000 devices. For all other Juniper firewalls, the firewall must be rebooted to check the boot-loader version.

Note: You must be connected to the Juniper firewall console; reboot the firewall and then view the version during boot up:

Juniper Networks ISG Series BootROM V1.1.1 (Checksum: 88D32336)
Copyright (c) 1997-2008 Juniper Networks, Inc.

Total physical memory: 1024MB
    Test - Pass
    Initialization........ Done

Hit key 'X' and 'A' sequentially to update OS Loader....

Starting from Screen OS 6.3, the boot loader version can be checked via the CLI by running the get system command:

SSG350M-> get sys
Product Name: SSG-350M
Serial Number: JN123DB50ADE, Control Number: 00000000
Hardware Version: REV 05(0)-(00), FPGA checksum: 00000000, VLAN1 IP (0.0.0.0)
Software Version: 6.3.0r26.0, Type: Firewall+VPN
Feature: AV-K
BOOT Loader Version: 3.0.8
Compiled by build_master at: Tue Jul 10 02:06:00 PDT 2018
Base Mac: 84b5.9c22.9b90
File Name: screenos_image, Checksum: c0570128
, Total Memory: 1023MB

Table 1 of the ScreenOS 6.3.0 Upgrade Guide lists the recommended Boot Loader file names. The boot loader file name contains the version. For example, in Table 1, the following entry for the SSG 5 is displayed:
SSG 350         5.4r8 or later         Loadssg300v308(boot loader)
This bootloader version is 3.0.8.

Modification History:

2019-12-21: Changed ScreenOS 6.1.0 to 6.3.0 Upgrade Guide.
