Factory defaulting the EX-series switch to run EZsetup from console

Article ID: KB11041 KB Last Updated: 03 Mar 2017Version: 2.0
Summary:
Running EZsetup will only work when the EX switch is in factory default.  This can be accomplished by using the LCD panel to restore the EX switch to factory default or by moving the configuration files to a temporary directory.  The second method, described in this KB, is useful if you do not have someone physically at the location of the EX switch.
Symptoms:

Solution:

The following steps provide a method for factory defaulting the EX switch, from the console port, to run the EZsetup application.

NOTE: Running "load factory-default" from configuration mode does not allow you to run EZsetup.

Steps for factory defaulting the EX switch:

  • Login as root from console.
  • Move or Remove the current configuration files.  If unsure then always move the files as specified below.
  1. Move configuration files to a different directory:
root@hostname% cd /config/
root@hostname% mkdir /config/temp
root@hostname% mv /config/*.gz /config/temp
  1. Removing configuration files: (do you really want to delete these files?)
root@hostname% cd /config/
root@hostname% ls -l    (verify .gz config files)
root@hostname% rm /config/*.gz

  • Reboot the switch
root@hostname% shutdown -r now
  • After the EX switch reboots login as root (No need for password)
  • Now you can execute "ezsetup" normally from the "root@%" prompt.
root@%  ezsetup
