When opening a service request, requesting an RMA, or generating a license key, you will be asked to provide the product serial number or Software Support Reference Number (SSRN). This article explains these two types of serial numbers and provides instructions for finding the serial number on Juniper Networks products.
An explanation of the Serial Number Types and how to Locate a Serial Number by Product is provided below:
Serial Number Types
Juniper products have two types of serial numbers:
-
Hardware Serial Number – Most hardware system serial numbers are stamped on the device itself, as shown in the picture below. Many child component devices will also have hardware serial numbers.

-
Software Support Reference Number (SSRN) – This is a software serial number provided on the fulfillment document which ships electronically following the purchase of your Juniper software license. An example is below:
If the license has already been installed for your software, the Software Support Reference Number (SSRN) may be obtained by running the command 'show system license
'. The SSRN is included as the first 12 numerical digits of the 'Software Serial Number' listed in JUNOS.
> show system license
Software Serial Number: 150345967000-fhtJye
Support Reference Number: 150345067000
Note: For orders prior to March 3, 2017, the Software Serial Number is an alpha numeric starting with SUB, RTU or 9XX:
