Article ID: KB11774 KB Last Updated: 20 Aug 2010Version: 3.0
Summary:

There are two different methods used to access EZSETUP on an EX series switch. You can use the CLI (command line interface) or the J-WEB (web GUI).

This KB focuses on the J-WEB method.

Generally EZSETUP is used to configure a switch from scratch; i.e. an EX-series switch running JUNOS with the factory default configuration.

You can also run EZSETUP from the J-WEB after a configuration is applied.

To do this however, you must already have configured the switch and know the root password.
J-Web allows you to run EZsetup from your browser with a valid super-user account.

Symptoms:

Solution:
To connect and configure an EX Series switch using the J-Web interface:

1. Connect the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the PC to the switch.

■ EX3200 or EX4200 switch—Connect the cable to port 0 (ge-0/0/0) on the front panel of the switch. The ge-0/0/0 interface is configured as the DHCP server with the default IP address, 192.168.1.1.
■ EX8208 switch—Connect the cable to the port labeled MGMT on the Switch Fabric and Routing Engine (SRE) module in slot SRE0 on the switch chassis. The MGMT port on the SRE module in slot SRE0 is configured as the DHCP server with the default IP address, 192.168.1.1
■ EX8216 switch—Connect the cable to the port labeled MGMT on the Routing Engine (RE) module in slot RE0 on the switch chassis. The MGMT port on the RE module in slot RE0 is configured as the DHCP server with the default IP address, 192.168.1.1

The switch can assign an IP address to the management PC in the IP address range 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.253

2. Transition the switch into initial setup mode using the Menu and Enter buttons located to the right of the LCD panel

To transition the switch into initial setup mode, locate the LCD panel on the front of the switch:

■ Press Menu until you see MAINTENANCE MENU. Then press Enter.
■ Press Menu until you see ENTER EZSetup. Then press Enter.

If EZSetup does not appear as an option in the Maintenance menu, select Factory Default to return the switch to the factory default configuration. EZSetup is displayed in the menu only when the switch is set to the factory default configuration.

■ Press Enter to confirm setup and continue with EZSetup.

If you have configured a static IP address on your PC, you will not be able to connect to the switch. To obtain an IP address dynamically, you must enable a DHCP client on the management PC you connect to the switch.

NOTE: You must complete the initial configuration using the J-Web interface within 10 minutes. The LCD displays a count-down timer once you connect the switch to the management PC. The switch exits the EZSetup mode after 10 minutes and reverts to the default factory configuration, and the PC loses connectivity to the switch.

If you have already configured the EX series switch and you want to run EZSETUP again, you can use the J-WEB, provided you have root-authentication password.

Connect to an EX Switch with J-Web and enter your super-user account. J-Web dashboard opens.

Leave J-Web open and open a new browser with url: http://<ip-adress-of-EX>/jsdm/features/setup.html .

The ip-address is the EX Switch IP that you connected to with J-Web.

The EZsetup window will appear for EZsetup configuration, and you can continue with the EZSETUP feature.

NOTE: This will override the current configuration.
