Article ID: KB11832 KB Last Updated: 18 Oct 2020Version: 4.0
Note: A product listed in this article has either reached hardware End of Life (EOL) OR software End of Engineering (EOE).  Refer to End of Life Products & Milestones for the EOL, EOE, and End of Support (EOS) dates.
How to troubleshoot the stand-alone IDP which has connectivity issue to an NSM server.
Standalone IDP device cannot connect to the NSM server
If a sensor fails to connect to an NSM server, follow the troubleshooting procedure:
  1. Check the network connectivity between NSM Server and sensor using the ping and traceroute command

  2. From the sensor, connection to NSM server on port # 7803 should be allowed.  Test using:
    # telnet <nsm devsvr ip> 7803
  3. From NSM server SSH to the sensor as “admin” and then as “root”.  This step will verify if the user is entering correct password to add a sensor to NSM server.

  4. Check the status of agent process on sensor; use “service idp status” or “ status”

  5. Check the status of device server Manager:   “/usr/netscreen/DevSvr/bin/ status”

  6. Check the management IP.  If defined correctly, the NSM servers IP should be entered through ACM or CLI. Correct NSM server IP’s can be confirmed through ACM or CLI with the command “scio agentconfig list”

  7. Check the logs of agent process on the sensor in ‘/usr/idp/device/var/sysinfo/logs/agent.YYYYMMDD’

  8. Check the logs of the devSvrManager process on NSM server in /usr/netscreen/DevSvr/var/errorLog/deviceDaemon.0
