[ScreenOS] ###image corrupted### reported on SSG-140 console

Article ID: KB12680 KB Last Updated: 19 May 2020Version: 5.0
Summary:

After power outage or manual power off/on or execution of the reset command, some SSG-140 units may not finish the bootup process because of image corruption ("### image corrupted ###" will show on the console).

This article suggests a temporary workaround of reinstalling the ScreenOS image and if this does not work, suggests upgrading to ScreenOS releases where the code has been enhanced to prevent image corruption.

Solution:

ScreenOS software has been modified to protect against the image corruption issue. The multi-boot feature has been enhanced to automatically create a backup image from the default image and recover if one of the images becomes corrupt.

In most cases, this issue is resolved after the ScreenOS is reinstalled.

If a reinstallation of ScreenOS does not resolve the issue, or if you want to prevent the problem from recurring, then upgrade to latest ScreenOS release 6.3.0 where this issue is resolved.

Note that before upgrade to the latest ScreenOS release, we recommend that you follow the upgrade instructions described in the ScreenOS Upgrade Guide or Release Notes.

Additional reference is available in the JTAC Technical Bulletin: PSN-2008-09-035 -- Power outage or manual power off may cause image corruption on some SSG-140 units.
