STRM needs an internet connection to run Auto Update process.  Can the Auto Update process be configured to use a Proxy Server?


In STRM 2009.x Auto Update proxy address can be configured via WebUI, but in STRM 2008.x the Auto Update Proxy address needs to be configured manually via Linux shell.

STRM Auto Update process updates QIDMaps and Views.  

QIDMaps is the mapping of events to different category types. Following views are also updated
  • Applications
  • Ports
  • Geographic
  • Remote Networks
  • Remote Services
  • Protocols
  • Flowtypes
  • Collector
  • IP Tracking
  • Threats
You can configure AutoUpdate process to use Proxy Server by following these steps.
  1. Login to STRM Linux shell using SSH or Console
  2. Change directory: # cd /store/configservices/staging/globalconfig/
  3. Make a copy of nva.conf: # cp -p nva.conf nva.conf.ORI
  4. Edit the file nva.conf: # vi nva.conf
  5. Update the entries for the parameters:
    (edit from HTTP to HTTPS)
    Assuming the the proxy address is the value should be:
  6. Save the file
  7. Login to STRM WebUI: https://IP_ADDRESS_STRM
  8. Go to Config and click Deploy
STRM autoupdate process will now use proxy server configuration.

Note - Autoupdate works only if you have the correct license on STRM, it will not work on an eval/temp license.
