[EOL/EOE] Device in NSM shows as "Invalid" but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong.

Article ID: KB12733 KB Last Updated: 18 Oct 2020Version: 3.0
Note: A product listed in this article has either reached hardware End of Life (EOL) OR software End of Engineering (EOE).  Refer to End of Life Products & Milestones for the EOL, EOE, and End of Support (EOS) dates.
Device in NSM shows as "Invalid" but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong when the device is edited.
In the NSM Device manager, a device is showing as invalid and has a red error icon.

Editing the device, there are no red error icons visable so it looks like the configuration is ok.

How can this error be cleared.
There may have been a migration issue if the firewall was migrated from a previous version such as 4.0 to a newer version such as 5.4.
During this migration, a flag may have been set in the NSM DB to show the device is "invalid" when it is ok.

This may be able to be cleared using this simple workaround:
  1. Edit the device.

  2. Change the name of the device.

  3. Click ok to save the device configuration.

  4. Edit the device again, changing the name back to the original name and select ok again to save the device configuration.

This should clear the invalid flag if the device is truly in a valid state.

  5. If the error is not cleared, click on another device in the device list and see if the screen refreshes.  If this does not clear the error, a support case may need to be created so the DB can be examined.
