AIM: MIB compile order

0

0

Article ID: KB13451 KB Last Updated: 24 Feb 2009Version: 1.0
Summary:
AIM MIB compile order for trap receiver

Symptoms:
AIM reaction policies may configure to send traps in certain situations - for example when the case is updated. AIM distribution comes with MIB files located under $AIM_HOME/mibs folder for the trap receive to help decode the trap events. The MIB modules have dependencies, and some compilers require the MIBs to be compiled in order.

Solution:
Compilers may complain of unresolved modules when the MIB order is wrong. Some compilers will fix it by repeating it, but some do not.

When required, the correct order for a MIB compile is:
  1. SNMPv2-SMI.mib
  2. jnx-smi.mib
  3. jnx-ai-manager.mib

The dependency may be looking at the DEFINITIONS and IMPORTS section of MIB file header.

[root@aim-rhel5 mibs]# cat jnx-ai-manager.mib
...
JUNIPER-AI-MANAGER-MIB DEFINITIONS ::= BEGIN

IMPORTS
MODULE-IDENTITY, OBJECT-TYPE, NOTIFICATION-TYPE
FROM SNMPv2-SMI
DisplayString
FROM SNMPv2-TC
jnxAdvancedInsightMgr
FROM JUNIPER-SMI;
...

[root@aim-rhel5 mibs]# cat jnx-smi.mib
...
JUNIPER-SMI DEFINITIONS ::= BEGIN

IMPORTS
MODULE-IDENTITY, OBJECT-IDENTITY, enterprises
FROM SNMPv2-SMI;
...

[root@aim-rhel5 mibs]# cat SNMPv2-SMI.mib

SNMPv2-SMI DEFINITIONS ::= BEGIN
...
