Summary:
How to Replace/Insert the Management Module in NS-5000 series devices.
Symptoms:

Cause:

Solution:
  1. Save the device configuration to the file.  For more information on saving or backing up the config, refer to KB6240.
  2. Power off the device.

    CAUTION: Power off the devices before removing or installing Netscreen-5000 modules.
                       These modules are not hot-swappable.

  3. Refer to http://kb.juniper.net/KB13191 for replacing the card.
    NOTE: The management module can be inserted/removed in the same fashion as an Interface card.
  4. Power on the device.
  5. The management module comes with a factory default config.  The device can be accessed using the following two methods:
    a1. Connect a PC directly to the MGT interface; the MGT interface comes with a default IP address of 192.168.1.1.
    b1. Assign the PC the IP address 192.168.1.10/24 (or any IP in that subnet) and a default gateway 192.168.1.1.
    c1. Open a browser, and access http://192.168.1.1.   The default username and password is netscreen/netscreen.

    a2. The firewall can also be accessed using console. http://kb.juniper.net/KB4066
  6. The device with the new management module is ready to be configured.
  7. Upgrade the firewall to the version running previously.  Follow the Instructions in the Upgrade Guide for 'Upgrading to the New Firmware'.   The Upgrade Guide can be found at the following link: http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/software/screenos/.
  8. Restore the device configuration from the file you created in step1.  For more information, refer to KB6240.
  9. If this device is to be placed in an NRSP cluster, then synchronize the configs.  For more information, refer to  KB6351 and http://kb.juniper.net/KB12005
