Not able to get the traffic logs in the policy even after the logging is enabled in the policy

Article ID: KB13876 KB Last Updated: 31 Jul 2009Version: 1.0
Summary:
Not able to get the traffic logs in the policy even after the logging is enabled in the policy
Symptoms:
Get log traffic shows no traffic logs in the policy. Get policy shows that logging is enabled in the policy

In ScreenOS, there are different options to send the logs and debug information using Console, Internal buffer, Syslog, Email etc.
By default, ScreenOS logs all the info to the internal buffer, and then its a choice for the customer to send the same info to the Syslog server or Email server.

There are different levels of logging like:
Levels: 0=Emergency, 1=Alert, 2=Critical, 3=Error, 4=Warning, 5=Notification,6=Information, 7=Debugging,

By default, all levels of the logs are sent to the internal buffer. The traffic logs fall under the "Notification" level, and if by mistake customer disables the "Notification" level for Internal logging, the firewall stops to generate the traffic logs in the buffer, e.g:
unset log module system level notification destination internal
Under this condition, when "get log traffic policy xxx" command is executed, traffic logs will not be displayed for that policy.
Solution:
Then enable the Notification level for the Internal buffer, and the firewall will start to log the traffic logs.

set log module system level notification destination internal
