[ScreenOS] How to Telnet from the CLI of a Juniper firewall to another device?

This article explains command to enable Netscreen Devices to allow Telnet from the CLI to another Juniper or third-party device.

Telnet client on the Juniper firewall is supported starting with ScreenOS 6.2.0 and above.
Previous versions of ScreenOS do not include a Telnet client; therefore, you cannot Telnet from the CLI of a Juniper firewall using firmware 6.1.0, 6.0.0, 5.4.0, etc.  See KB5887.

Commands to enable/disable the Telnet client:
set telnet client enable
unset telnet client enable
Command used to Telnet:
telnet <ip-address or hostname> port <port-number>
You have the option to specify the source-interface after the port number if desired.

Devices which can support ScreenOS 6.2.0:
  • SSG-5, SSG-20, SSG-140, SSG-300, SSG-500 series
  • ISG-1000, ISG-2000
  • NetScreen-5200/5400 - (with M2 or M3 management boards, with the 8G2, 8G2-G4, 2XGE, 2XGE-G4
