STRM Backup Fails

0

0

Article ID: KB13934 KB Last Updated: 19 Feb 2010Version: 2.0
Summary:
STRM Backup Failure notification on the Dashboard
Symptoms:
  • How To Troubleshoot STRM Backup Failures.
  • Incorrect Warning Threshold value in Deployment Editor
Solution:
By default, STRM makes a config backup every day at midnight.

If a backup fails, check for errors in the file /var/log/qradar.log:
#grep backup /var/log/qradar.log

If you see the following message, the backup failed because the disk usage is higher than the disk Warning Threshold:
Apr 13 00:00:38 127.0.0.1 [hostcontext.hostcontext] [Scheduled Backup] com.labs.hostcontext.backup.BackupRecoveryEngine: [WARN] [NOT:0000004000][10.10.10.10/- -] [-/- -]partition containing directory: '/store/backup' above warning threshold, disallowing backup
In STRM 2009.1 , the stored data is not compress after 3 days as in STRM 2008.1, instead the data compression starts at 85% of disk full and will compress down to 82%.

The nightly backup will fail if the used disk space is bigger than Disk Usage Sentinel Settings: Warning Threshold.  In STRM 2009.1 the original default Disk Usage Sentinel Setting for Warning threshold is set to 75 %, which can cause the failure since compression doesn't start until 85% of disk space.   To  solve this issue:
  1. Open Deployment Editor
  2. Right click hostcontex icon and select Configure
  3. Modify the value of Warning Threshold from 0.75 to 0.86
  4. Click Save
  5. Perform Deploy All from the WebUI
