Article ID: KB13939 KB Last Updated: 22 Apr 2009Version: 1.0
What is DMI and how does NSM manage DMI devices?

Device Management Interface (DMI) is an extension to the NETCONF network management protocol. It allows DMI-enabled management applications to connect with and configure Juniper Networks devices.

There are two important parts to understand about DMI; the connection mechanism and the configuration RPCs methods (remote procedure calls) which are performed to import or update settings from a management application such as NSM.

DMI Device Connection (See KB13940)
DMI Device Configuration Management (See KB13941)
