Enable Ping on STRM

Article ID: KB14001 KB Last Updated: 23 Apr 2009Version: 1.0
How to enable Ping on STRM device

STRM by default drops all inbound ICMP traffic, this disables the ping to an STRM device.

To enable ping follow the steps below
  1. Login to STRM using SSH
  2. Take a backup of file /opt/qradar/conf/iptables.pre
    • #cp /opt/qradar/conf/iptables.pre /opt/qradar/conf/iptables.pre.bak
  3. Edit the iptables file: #vi /opt/qradar/conf/iptables.pre
  4. Add the following line
    • -A INPUT -i eth0 -p icmp -j ACCEPT
      • (for eth1 interface substitute eth0 with eth1)
  5. Run #/opt/qradar/bin/ (for STRM version 2008.2, run:  /usr/libexec/webmin/qradar/iptables_update)
  6. Verify the iptables using #iptables -L
Now you should be able to ping the IP address of the STRM interface.
