Article ID: KB14209 KB Last Updated: 19 May 2009Version: 1.0
Summary:
Error with "IP list is full" when trying to add new DHCP Reserved IP addresses

Symptoms:
An error is shown in the WebUI or CLI when trying to add a new DHCP Reserved IP address:

Sample error via WebUI:

Sample error via CLI:
ssg5-isdn-wlan-> set interface wireless0/0 dhcp server ip 192.168.2.66 mac abcd12340065
Error: IP list is full.

Failed command - set interface wireless0/0 dhcp server ip 192.168.2.66 mac abcd12340065
ssg5-isdn-wlan->

Based on the configuration, there are still IP addresses available to be configured as part of the DHCP Reserved IP address pool.

Example:
ssg5-isdn-wlan-> get conf | i "dhcp server ip"
set interface wireless0/0 dhcp server ip 192.168.2.2 mac abcd12340000
..
..Abbreviated
...
set interface wireless0/0 dhcp server ip 192.168.2.65 mac abcd12340000

From the above, we can see that there were a total of 64 addresses reserved.
Solution:
The firewall supports up to a total of 64 DHCP Reserved IP addresses to be configured.  Additional DHCP Reserved IP addresses above 64 will not be permitted to be configured via the WebUI or the CLI.

This applies for ScreenOS versions from 5.0 to 5.4, 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2 as well.

Possible solutions:
  • Use a combination of Dynamic DHCP addresses instead of the DHCP Reserved IP addresses.
  • Use an IP range instead of single IP address whenever is possible
  • Use a stand alone DHCP server.
