How to setup PPPoE on a firewall in NSM.
- Login to NSM
- Go to Device Manager
- Select and edit the firewall that you are trying to configure PPPoE on.
- Go to Network
- Go to PPPoE
- Set up PPPoE.

- PPPoE Instance: Enter the name of the instance. Choose a descriptive name to help identify the instance.
- Interface: Select the interface to which you want to bind the PPPoE instance.
- Username: Enter the user name for the PPPoE connection.
- Password: Enter the password for the PPPoE connection.
- Authentication Protocol: Select the authentication method.
- Any means both CHAP and PAP authentication is used.
- CHAP means only CHAP authentication is used.
- PAP means only PAP authentication is used.
- Concentrator-Name: Specifies the Access Concentrator to be used for the PPPoE connection.
- Service: Specifies the service for the PPPoE connection.
- Auto-Connect time interval: Specifies the number of seconds before a previously-closed connection is automatically reinitiated. Specify a value between 0-10000. A value of 0 disables this function.
- Idle Period Before Disconnecting: Specifies the number of minutes that the connection is idle before the NetScreen device terminates the connection. A value of 0 disables this function and the connection is never terminated.
- Clear on Disconnect: Removes IP information on connection termination.
- Update DHCP Server: When you initiate a PPPoE connection, your ISP automatically provides the IP addresses for the Untrust zone interface and the IP addresses for the Domain Name Service (DNS) servers. Enable this option if you want the NetScreen device to overwrite the local settings with the DNS settings it receives via PPPoE.
- Manual IP Configuration: Specifies that the connection uses the IP address assigned to the device's interface.
- PPP settings:
- PPP lcp Echo Retries: Specifies the number of unacknowledged LCP Echo requests that occur before the connection is terminated. Specify a value between 1-30.
- Time between sending two LCP Echo Requests (PPP lcp Echo Timeout): Specifies the number of seconds between LCP echo request transmissions. Specify a value between 1-1000.
- Click Apply
- Click Ok
- Push an update to the firewall.
