[IDP] Procedure to factory default/re-image IDP sensors (75/250/800/8200)

Article ID: KB14480 KB Last Updated: 15 Oct 2013Version: 8.0
Summary:

The IDP appliance comes with software pre-installed. If needed, the factory image can be reinstalled to perform a factory reset. This process is known as re-imaging the appliance.

This article provides the procedure to re-image IDP sensors (75/250/800/8200) with USB Flash Memory Stick or USB based CD-ROM drive.

Symptoms:

New IDP platforms IDP-75, IDP-250, IDP-800 and IDP-8200 are shipped with a USB stick containing the software image. There is no built-in CD-ROM on these models. Re-image of the sensor is normally performed using the USB stick. In case any customer loses their USB stick or the USB stick gets corrupt, the USB based CD-ROM procedure can be used as a workaround to re-image the sensor to recover the sensor.

Note that using the USB stick requires that the USB stick is from Juniper Networks. Re-imaging will not work with any other USB stick with an ISO image copied onto it. If you have lost your USB stick, please contact your account team for a replacement.

Solution:

IDP sensors can be re-imaged with:

  • USB Flash Memory Stick  OR
  • USB Based CD-ROM

USB Flash Memory Stick instructions
:

Refer to the steps in the IDP800 Installation Guide:
Chapter 10, p. 59 - Re-imaging and Re-licensing an Appliance

Note:  If the USB Flash Memory Stick is lost or gets corrupt, follow the USB based CD-ROM instructions below.

USB based CD-ROM instructions:

Note:  This procedure works with most but not all USB CD-ROMs.

This procedure should be used as a work-around in case the USB based image is lost or corrupted.

Note: This procedure only applies to the new IDP platforms (IDP-75, IDP-250, IDP-800 and IDP-8200).
  1. Download the IDP 5.1R3 ISO image from the Juniper Software Download Site.
  2. Burn the ISO image on a CD using ISO burner software.
  3. Connect a USB based CD-ROM to the IDP sensor USB port and put the CD in the CD-ROM.
  4. Reboot the IDP sensor. It should detect the CD-ROM and allow re-image of the sensor.
