Restore Config of Collector in STRM

Article ID: KB14817 KB Last Updated: 17 Jul 2009Version: 1.0
When you make a backup of STRM, it only takes a config backup of the console, not the Collectors. For the Collectors, only a data backup is performed.
In STRM all the Sensor devices are tied to a collector. If you RMA a Collector and add new one, all devices would have to be remapped to new a collector-id.

If a Collector is replaced, its ID in the STRM console can be retained by following the steps below.

Configure the new Collector with same software patch level, IP address, hostname and password as the previous Collector.
Once the Collector is reachable from the STRM console, perform the following:
  1. Login to STRM UI and launch the Deployment Editor from Config Window
  2. Delete the old collector host - Do not delete the EP/EC or FP/FC components
  3. Save the Config and Exit the Deployment Editor
  4. Deploy All
  5. Launch the Deployment Editor one more time
  6. Add the new Collector (which has the same IP as of old one)
  7. Go to Event View and delete the new components (EC/EP)
  8. Right click the Components from the Old Collector and Assign them to the newly added managed host
  9. Save and Exit Deployment Editor
  10. Deploy All

Now the new collector has the same component ID as the old one. Events from all the devices will match the correct collector Id.
