How do I verify chassis cluster nodes are configured and up on J-Series and SRX?

  [KB15439] Show Article Properties

Summary:

How do I verify chassis cluster nodes are configured and up on J-Series and SRX?

Symptoms:

Verify Chassis Cluster (JSRP)

Solution:

Note: This article applies to SRX Series J Series devices running the following versions of Junos:

  • JUNOS 9.4 and above
  • JUNOS with Enhanced Services 8.5 through 9.3

step1  Run the following command on either node to verify that the Chassis Cluster is enabled:
show chassis cluster status
What output do you see?
  • Chassis cluster is not enabled - Consult KB15650 (SRX Series) OR KB12816 (J Series) on how to set the device in Cluster mode.
  • Cluster and Redundancy Group information - Continue with Step 2.

step2  Do you see node0 and node1 listed under Redundancy Group 0?
  • Yes - Continue with Step 3.
  • No - Go to Step 5.

step3  For each Redundancy Group, what is the Status?

step4  What is the priority of each node?

  • 0 - Consult KB16869.
  • 255 - Consult KB16870.
  • 1 - 254 - If both nodes have a priority other than 0 or 255, i.e. if the priority listed for each node is the priority specified in the configuration, then the cluster status is in a healthy state.  We recommend testing the failover condition.  Refer to the Understanding Failover section of Technical Documentation.

step5  Are both devices the same Hardware, AND are both devices running the same JUNOS Software Release?

step6  Is the 'Cluster ID' the same on each device?  To check, run the following command on each node:
show chassis cluster status
  • Yes - Continue with Step 7.
  • No - The Cluster IDs must be the same. - Consult KB15650 (SRX Series) OR KB12816 (J Series) on how to set the device in Cluster mode.

step7  Is the TX/RX light green for the Control link port (fxp1) on each SRX device?
  • Yes - Continue with Step 8.
  • No - Troubleshoot why fxp1 (the Control Link) is down. Check cable connection between fxp1 on both devices. A switch cannot be used. Confirm cable is connected to correct fxp1 port on each device. Possibly swap cable.
Also, consult the Hardware Guide for your specific model under the SRX Series Service Gateway Hardware Documentation. Search for the text, LEDs, in the Hardware Guide.  Descriptions of the LEDs and how to troubleshoot are included.

step8  If you need additional assistance, collect the following:
show chassis cluster status
show chassis cluster statistics
show chassis cluster information
show log jsrpd
show log messages
show log chassisd
request support information

and  Contact Support to open a case.
