[STRM] Adaptive Log Exporter (ALE) service dependencies

Article ID: KB15515 KB Last Updated: 13 Sep 2011Version: 3.0
The Adaptive Log Exporter depends on the Windows Print Spooler service in order to operate
The ALE service will not start.  The fact that ALE depends on the Windows Print Spooler for operation is not documented anywhere.
This note confirms that the ALE process requires the Windows Print Spooler to be running in order for ALE to operate properly.

The reason for this is that there is no way for the ALE service to know which other services or applications are installed on the Windows machine.   For proper operation, all services that ALE might report on must be running when ALE starts.  For this reason, the ALE service depends on the Windows print spooler because it is one of the last Windows services to start.

Currently, the Windows Print Spooler service must be left operational in order for ALE to start properly.
