How does the command "set interface xxx t1-options remote-loopback-respond" work?

Article ID: KB16068 KB Last Updated: 12 Jan 2010Version: 1.0
How does the command "set interface xxx t1-options remote-loopback-respond" work?
Explanation of the command:   set interface <interface> t1-options remote-loopback-respond
The T1 data-link loop-request signal is used for monitoring and diagnostics of the T1 link. To configure the interface to respond to remote-loopback requests, use the command:
set interface xxx t1-options remote-loopback-respond
Setting this command allows the firewall's T1 interface to be looped by an external device. After setting this command, the LED on the interface turns to AMBER. This indicates that the firewall is enabled to be looped by the external device but normal traffic can still pass through the interface.

Now when the external device sends a"loop up" code toward the firewall's interface, the T1 interface is looped and will cause traffic disruption. At this time, the LED on the interface is still AMBER.

To turn off the loop on the firewall's interface, the external device needs to send a "loop down" code toward the firewall's T1 interface which causes the LED to turn OFF.
