How to configure link aggregation group (LAG) on EX-series Ethernet Switches using the Jweb interface

IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation enables multiple Ethernet interfaces to be grouped together and form a single link layer interface, also known as a link aggregation group (LAG) or bundle. A typical deployment for LAG would be to aggregate trunk links between an access switch and a distribution switch or customer edge (CE) router. LAG can only be used for a point-to-point connection. The information below describes the steps used to configure link aggregation.

Link aggregation takes place on point-to-point connections between two devices. A LAG balances traffic across the member links within an aggregated Ethernet bundle and effectively increases the uplink bandwidth. Another advantage of link aggregation is increased availability, because the LAG is composed of multiple member links. If one member link fails, the LAG continues to carry traffic over the remaining links.

All links participating in an LAG are considered members. A typical deployment for LAG would be to aggregate trunk links between an access switch and a distribution switch or customer edge (CE) router.

NOTE:  The LAG interface cannot be created using the web-interface without deleting the logical part of the interfaces using the CLI.

In a default switch configuration, the logical interface is configured with the family ethernet-switching as belo

user@switch# show
unit 0 {
       family ethernet-switching;

The first step is to make sure that the logical part of the interface is deleted by issuing the following command and committing the configuration.

{master:0}[edit interfaces ge-0/0/1]
user@switch# delete unit 0

JWEB Configuration:
  1. On the Dashboard click on the Configure tab.
  2. Access the Link aggregation tab on the left menu of the page.
  3. Click on Add present on the right corner of the page which will have a Create Aggregation window displayed.
  4. This window will display only the interfaces for which the logical "unit 0" has been deleted. Click on add and select the interfaces that has to be added to the aggregated interface ae0 which will be the first LAG interface.
  5. LACP mode,either active or passive can be selected from the drop down menu.
  6. If we wish to have logging enabled, we should check the check box to enable the option.
  7. Click OK

The details of the ae0 interface that has been created will be displayed in the pane below the configuration pane as below:
