Article ID: KB16387 KB Last Updated: 07 Jan 2010Version: 1.0
Summary:
This article explains the current JUNOS support for Private VLANs on the EX-series Switch.
Symptoms:

Solution:
Scenario Details:

1) A sample LAB setup with three EX4200’s connected to each other via trunk links.

2) Each EX4200 is configured with a PVLAN with Isolated and Community VLANS, which are spanned via the trunk links.

On the EX Switch the implementation of PVLANS is as follows:

1) Two hosts in the same Community VLAN, on a single switch, will be able to ping and communicate with each other.

2) With one host in one Community VLAN, and another host in another Community VLAN on the same switch, communication will not be possible.

3) With one host in one Community VLAN on Switch 1, and another host on a different Community VLAN on switch 2 or switch 3, communications will still happen. The same behavior will be observed with Isolated VLANS when communicating between hosts on different switches.

NOTE: Private VLANs (PVLAN) are currently supported locally within a single switch only. The Private VLAN (PVLAN) across multiple switches functionality is expected in a later JUNOS release.  Please contact Juniper Technical Assistance Center (JTAC) for further information.
