Article ID: KB16662 KB Last Updated: 21 Feb 2020Version: 4.0
Summary:
This article explains a simple procedure for resetting NSM device communications from the Junos device side
Symptoms:
Sometimes circumstances lead to a device losing communication with NSM.  Rather than unsetting all NSM configuration parameters or deleting the device in NSM and re-adding it, there is a set of commands to reset the NSM communications.
Solution:

On the Junos device, enter edit mode in the CLI, and perform the following steps:

  1. Confirm that the proper config exists for the device to connect to NSM:

    Run the command:    show system services outbound-ssh

    The output should be similar to below:

    #show system services outbound-ssh
    client nsm {
       device-id 2CEDC2;
       secret “$ABC123"; ## SECRET-DATA
       services netconf;
       10.10.10.51 port 7804;
    }

  2. Deactivate outbound-ssh:

    # deactivate system services outbound-ssh
    # commit

  3. Re-activate outbound-ssh:

    # activate system services outbound-ssh
    # commit

Modification History:

2020-02-21: Changed encrypted password to “$ABC123".
