Why is the DIP removed from the interface but not the MIP when I change the corresponding interface's netmask?

Article ID: KB16722 KB Last Updated: 22 Jun 2010Version: 2.0
Summary:
DIP is removed when changing netmask, but not the MIP
Symptoms:
When you change the netmask of a given interface, any associated DIP config will be removed from the interface, but not any associated MIP.
Solution:
When you change the netmask of a given interface, any associated DIP config will be removed from the interface, but not any associated MIP.  This behavior is expected. The reason is that any DIP configured must be in the same subnet as the interface in ScreenOS, whereas with the MIP this restriction does not exist.  So when the netmask of the interface is deleted or changed, the DIP will be removed accordingly.
