Article ID: KB16757 KB Last Updated: 10 Sep 2012Version: 3.0
Summary:
What Compact Flash Cards have been tested with NetScreen
Symptoms:
Compact Flash Memory Card compact flash card Verified compatible
Solution:
The following CF cards have been tested and verified compatible with the ScreenOS versions:
  • ScreenOS 6.0 and later: 128M, 256M, 512M, 1G and 2G
  • ScreenOS 5.4 and earlier: 128M, 512M, 1G and 2G
IMPORTANT:  In all cases, CF must be formatted to FAT16.

NOTE: These days it is not easy to buy small size compact flash. If you have a compact flash with over a gig capacity, try setting the file size in the above command to 200 MB or lower. Large files will be harder to transfer to JTAC and to Juniper engineering analyzing the crash. In our observation even with 200 Meg core-dump compression, it is reduced to a 50 Meg file.

Format can either be done in Windows XP (or 2000 or windows server 2003) or Linux. Preferred option is Linux.
The Industrial Grade SanDisk has been qualified with the NetScreen products.
