Article ID: KB16923 KB Last Updated: 02 Apr 2010Version: 1.0
Summary:
This article attempts to understand the configuration between the ESX and to setup link aggregation between ESX and EX
Symptoms:
Behavior of a link when configuring a link aggregation between an EX Switch and a virtual machine and an EX Switch and a normal server can be different.

When configuring with a virtual server we need to consider a few options or features available.
When configuring Link aggregation between an EX Switch and an ESX, we might encounter a few issues like link flap or duplicate packets generated between them. This article helps us in avoiding some of these issues.
Solution:
In ESX the only load balancing option for Distributed Switch that can be used with Link aggregation is IP HASH.

* Do not use beacon probing with IP HASH load balancing.

* Do not configure standby uplinks with IP HASH load balancing.
