[SRX] Check license usage and install license

Article ID: KB17292 KB Last Updated: 16 Apr 2020Version: 6.0

This article provides information on how to check if a Dynamic VPN license is installed, in use, or out of licenses.

This article is a part of the Dynamic VPN Resolution Guide: KB17220 - Resolution Guide - SRX - Troubleshoot Pulse VPN connections to SRX.

  • The error message "No license available" is reported in the User Login window when a Dynamic VPN user connects to the SRX device:

  •  Pulse reports the status "Waiting to connect" and "Unable to resolve hostname:"

Dynamic VPN is a licensed feature for SRX-Branch devices. By default, a two-user evaluation license is provided free of cost and it does not expire. In cases where there are more than two users that need to connect concurrently, a license is required. Ordering information can be found here.

After you have purchased a Dynamic VPN license, you will need to install the license into the SRX device. Instructions on how to do this can be found here.

Note: After you add a purchased or dedicated license, you will no longer be able to use the free two-user Dynamic VPN evaluation license.

In order to verify the installed license and the number of licenses in use by logged in users, enter the following command:  show system license

root@host> show system license
License usage:
                                 Licenses Licenses Licenses Expiry
  Feature name used installed needed
  dynamic-vpn 1 10 0 permanent

  • If you are using the two-user evaluation license, you will not see an entry for dynamic-vpn in the show system license output. However, by default, you will be allowed to connect with two Dynamic VPNs with this evaluation license.

  • After purchasing a license, the number of users seen in the show system license output will be equal to the number specified in the purchased license.

  • If the "Licenses used" column value has reached the value in the "Licenses installed" column in the show system license output, then you may consider purchasing more licenses.

Modification History:

2020-04-16: Added note "After you add a purchased or dedicated license, you will no longer be able to use the free two-user Dynamic VPN evaluation license" in Solution and made other minor changes
