[EX] USB device compatibility/Specifications

Summary:

This article explains the USB models supported on EX-series switches.

Symptoms:
What USB devices are recommended or safe to use with EX switches?
Solution:
The following Juniper Networks USB flash drives have been tested and are officially supported for the USB port on all EX Series switches:

* RE-USB-1G-S
* RE-USB-2G-S
* RE-USB-4G-S


Juniper part numbers are 740-021912 (1GB), 740-029810 (2GB), and 740-029813 (4GB).

Caution: Any USB memory product not listed as supported for EX Series switches have not been tested by Juniper Networks.

Juniper Networks Inc. does not recommend the use of any unsupported USB memory products. The use of an unsupported product may expose your EX Series switch to unpredictable behavior.

Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center (JTAC) can provide only limited support for issues related to unsupported hardware.

Juniper Networks Inc. only recommends the use of supported USB flash drives with EX series hardware.

All USB flash drives used on EX Series switches must have the following features:
  • USB 2.0 or later.
  • Formatted with a FAT or MS-DOS file system.
  • If the switch is running JUNOS Release 9.5 or earlier, the formatting method must use a primary boot record. Windows formatting, by default, does not use a primary boot record. See the documentation for your USB flash drive for information on how your USB flash drive is formatted.
